Several AVEAC athletes took part in last Saturday’s Run, Jump, Throw Open Graded Meeting at the EIS Arena, Sheffield and to their credit put together some pleasing performances and personal bests during the action packed competition.
On the track ten year old Summer Biggs got the AVEAC contingent off to a great start winning the 60m short sprint in 9.45 seconds, edging her Sports Hall rival Bella Egley (Chesterfield AC) by two one-hundredths of a second on the line. In another Under 11 60m dash, Isla Douglas also had an excellent race to come home in second place recording 9.51 seconds. In the Under 15 age group, Isla Hiscocks, sprinting in the top seeded race in her age group, finished second in 8.43 seconds behind lightening quick Isabella Davies (Birchfield Harriers) who dipped through the finish in 7.86 seconds. Isabella Overy-Jones and Ailsa McMillan recorded times of 9.32 and 9.40 seconds in their graded U15 Girl’s 60m sprints while Corey Fisher and Joe Moss seeded in the same 60m race finished 2nd and 4th with personal bests of 8.44 seconds and 8.70 seconds.
In the longer 200m one-lap sprints there was more joy for our two Under 11s girls in action. Summer Biggs again finished in 1st place in her graded heat with a time of 32.48 seconds while Isla Douglas was marginally faster in her race recording 31.88 seconds when placing 2nd. Corey Fisher ran an excellent personal best in the U15 200m; a time of 27.32 seconds saw him finish in 1st place. Another 200m PB was set by Daisy Kaye in the U17 200m. Daisy’s time of 27.83 seconds bettered her electronically timed outdoor best by five-hundredths of a second. Jasmine Shore also contested the 200m and registered a time of 30.54 seconds.
Madeleine Turner ran a determined mixed U15 800m race and was literally pipped on the line by Charlie Bibby (Wirral AC) by one-tenth of a second. Madeleine’s time was 2:34:29 which beat her previous outdoor best by over a second. Her Coach, Geoff Lowry, ran in a Mixed Senior and Master’s 3000m finishing in 9th place in a time of 10:26:41.
AVEAC athletes took part in two field events on the programme, the Long Jump and Shot. The Long Jump was a mixed age competition featuring athletes from Under 11 to Under 15. Summer Biggs recorded her third PB of the day with an excellent distance of 3.71m, an improvement of 25 centimetres on her previous best effort from last year. Other distances registered by the the AVEAC crew were; Joe Moss – 4.32m, Jasmine Shore – 3.85m, Madeleine Turner – 4.00m, Ailsa McMillan – 4.08m and Isla Hiscocks – 4.05m.
