Jess Turner turned her attention to the flat 400m at the English Senior and Disability Championships at Bedford on the weekend 30 – 31 July and came away with another national title.
Saturday’s qualification rounds saw her winning Heat 1 in 54.77 seconds, the second fastest of the sixteen entrants. In the final it was all about the last 100 metres with Jess coming from far back as she entered the straight to take the title on the line in 53:45 seconds ahead of Lauren Rule (Herts Phoenix) in 53:77 and Lily Beckford (Shaftesbury Barnet) in 53:99.
A fitting end to season for Jess following her rehabilitation from surgery during the winter. Hopefully next season Jess will be back to her brilliant best and focusing on qualifying over the 400m hurdles at the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
South of England Combined Events Championships, Horspath – 23/24th July
Scott Ram contested his third Decathlon of the season at the recent Southern Championships and came away finishing 5th overall.
Scott broke the 6000 points barrier yet again with a final total of 6041. Highlights over the tough two day event included a 50.67 seconds 400m which was the second fastest of the day, a 15:96 clocking in the 110m Hurdles, a 6.46m Long Jump and a 38.11m Javelin throw.
