Club middle-distance coach Geoff Lowry came away with a well deserved victory at the recent Elvaston 5 mile road race, run round the grounds of Elvaston castle on Sunday 25th September. Geoff covered the course in 32 minutes 28 seconds.
On the Wednesday prior to the Elvaston race, Geoff took time to pace recent new recruit to the Club, 14 year old Eden Klugman in two races held as part of the David Denton mid week road race series held in Derby. In the Mile, both crossed the line together in fifth and sixth places out of a field of forty four runners, recording identical times of 5 minutes 35 seconds. In the longer 5km race, fifty runners faced the starter with Eden finishing in 27th place in a time of 21:39 and Geoff two seconds behind in 21.41.
Geoff’s coaching group meets at the track on Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings at 6.30pm. The group have now started their winter training in preparation for the forthcoming Derbyshire Mini League cross country.
The three fixtures this year will take place on the following dates:
Match 1: Saturday 29th October at Buxton Rugby Club
Match 2: Saturday 26th November at Rutland Sports Park
Match 3: Saturday 17th December at Moorways Sports Village.
The action starts at 11am and the order of races are; U11G, U11B, U13G, U13B, U15G, U15B.
Sports Hall Return
The Derbyshire Mini League Sports Hall competition returns soon with the first fixture on Sunday 16th October. The other dates are:
Sunday 20th November
Sunday 4th December
Sunday 8th January
Sunday 5th February
Sunday12th March
All the fixtures will take place at the Queens Park Leisure Centre, Chesterfield from 1pm.
The age groups are:
U11s – school years 4,5 and 6
U13s – Years 7 and 8
U15s – Years 9 and 10.
