Good start to Sports Hall and Cross Country Mini Leagues

AVEAC younger athletes have made a good start at the first Mini League Sports Hall and Cross Country fixtures held recently at Chesterfield and Buxton.

The first sports hall fixture of the season took place on Sunday 16th October, with thirty one AVEAC athletes in action. The team finished second overall behind Chesterfield and ahead of Derby. All our athletes performed to the best of their ability with several winning their individual events outright.

In the U11 Girl’s match, Summer Biggs was our star performer with a brace of victories in the 2 Lap race and Standing Triple Jump. Isla Douglas took joint first place in the 1 Lap sprint and finished inches behind Summer in the longer sprint. Other athletes who performed well in this age group included Suri Ghai, Ruby Arnold, Ruby Shore and Florence Protheroe.

In the Under 11 Boy’s match, Marcus Parsons- Loades also recorded a double victory with maximum points in the Standing Triple Jump and Chest Push throw. In the latter event, Marcus was ably supported by his team mates, Ethan Ray and Kyran McCrellis who finished second and third. Jacob Adams was also in good form placing first in the vertical jump and backing that performance up with second spot in the Standing Triple Jump and third place in the 1 Lap sprint. Although not gaining podium positions, the two other team members, Oscar Ashmore and Edan Brown  performed well contributing to a good team effort.

Madeleine Turner  and Jasmine Shore continued their impressive outdoor form from the Summer with a victory each in the Under 13 Girl’s contest. Madeleine won the 6 Lap run while Jasmine was the top thrower in the Shot. Madeleine also placed third in the Standing Triple Jump and Jasmine filled the same position in the 2 Lap sprint.  Other fine performances across the range of the sports hall events were recorded by; Erin Beresford, Lily Robshaw, Amelia Whittaker, Betsy Wilton, Olivia Irvine, Mamie Skipper and Ellie Ursell.

Like Madeleine and Jasmine in the Girl’s match, Corey Fisher and Ryan Ghai  also recorded winning performances in the Boy’s fixture.  Corey took maximum points in the 6 Lap run with Ryan doing like wise in the Vertical Jump.  Ryan claimed two second places in the 2 Lap sprint and  Standing Triple Jump with Cory also finishing third in both events. Riley Jones also contributed nicely to the overall team score with a second place finish behind Corey in the 6 lap run and two third places in the Vertical Jump and Shot. It was also good to see Joe Moss back in action following a hip injury with a fine second place in the Shot. The final member of the U13 squad,  Alfie Ray, although not finishing in the top three, did record a good set of marks in the Shot and Standing Triple Jump.

Isla Hiscocks and Isobelle Protheroe were our sole representatives in the Girl’s U15 section. Isla continued where she had left of last year with excellent victories in the 2 Lap Sprint and Vertical Jump and a second place in the Shot. Isobelle had a good run in the 4 Lap race finishing second.

Jack Moss and Kian Whittaker contested the U15 Boy’s events. Jack did well finishing second in the 4 Lap run and backing that performance up with third places in the 2 Lap sprint and Shot. Kian just finished outside the top three in his events, with fourth places in the 2 and 4 Lap races and the Shot.

The second Sports Hall fixture will take place at Chesterfield on Sunday 20th November starting at 1pm
