Saturday 15th April saw an exciting first outdoor Mini League match of the season at Moorways Sports Village, Derby. Even though some members were still enjoying Easter holidays away, thirty seven of AVEAC’s athletes braved the fresh Spring conditions to represent the club.
For some it was their first outdoor Mini League competition so well done for what can be a daunting experience in a big stadium in front of a large stand of spectators. The experience should stand you all in good stead for the rest of the meetings! For other athletes it was their first outdoor meeting in a new age group. All competitors took to the challenge and turned in performances of which they can be proud.
Overall, AVEAC finished the first match in third place out of six clubs with 463 points, behind first placed Derby (629 points) and second place Chesterfield (522 points). Congratulations to the U13 boys for winning their age category. The U11 girls with 82 points were close runners up to Derby on 83.5.

Well done to the very youngest members of the club. Esme Wainwright, Claudia Sangster, Jasper Sangster and Alissia Robshaw for taking part in an non-scoring Under 9 50m race.
Thank you to Rich Woodward and Danny Humphreys for being Team Managers and organising athletes in their events. Thanks as well to the club volunteers who officiated the Discus event: Bob Boyd, Simon Turner, Becky Moss, Shellie Kerton, and Glyn Gillard. Providing officials is a responsibility of the club and without them the events would not run. In some competitions, the club scores points for the number of officials it provides. AVEAC are always very thankful for any volunteers who can help with this. Officiating is not too difficult, full training is given and each event is run by an experienced official to lead the way. If you would like to get involved contact any of the team managers or committee members via the website / social media, or just speak to a team manager on the day of any meetings.
The next Mini League is on Saturday 29th April at Moorways so please add this date to your calendar and we hope to see even more athletes taking part!
