Record-Breaking Joe Moss Leads AVEAC to Second Place in Fourth Sportshall

Joe Moss stole the show at Match 4 of the Sportshall season, breaking TWO records as AVEAC delivered a strong performance at Chesterfield’s Queens Sports Park on 4th January 2026. Joe set new records in both the 2-lap (22.90 seconds) and standing long jump (2.77 metres), helping the club secure second place with 410 points.

We had 31 athletes competing on Sunday – up from 25 and 26 in our previous three matches – showing great momentum as we head into the final two fixtures. The under 11s continue to field strong numbers, and with some age group teams still in contention for gold, we’re calling on more athletes in the older age groups to join us for the remaining matches.

Across the day, AVEAC athletes delivered outstanding performances in track and field events. Our under 11 girls and boys are tied or in second place in their league standings, while our under 15 boys are joint first – meaning gold medals are still up for grabs!

Two matches to go

We increased our numbers by 4 athletes this time, but Chesterfield still had 11 more athletes than their previous on Sunday, and it secured them the win.

The match scores for Sportshall #4 were as follows:

  1. Chesterfield – 509
  2. Amber Valley & Erewash AC – 410
  3. Derby – 221
  4. High Peak – 196

This means it’s unlikely we can claim first as, with two matches to go, the overall scores and league points are as follows:

  1. Chesterfield – 1,981.5 (16 league points)
  2. AVEAC – 1,531 (12)
  3. Derby – 903 (8)
  4. High Peak – 728.5 (4)

However, we can secure second place overall and some of our age group teams (under 11 girls and boys and under 15 boys) still have the chance to take home gold. Plus, athletes still have time to beat their PBs and finish the winter indoor Sportshalls on a positive before we go back to track & field for AVEAC.

Let’s see a sea of yellow for Sportshall #5 on 2nd February, which will have an inter-counties trial for the under 11s who have been selected to compete. The teams representing Derbyshire will be announced soon.
