On Sunday 06 October, AVEAC travelled north to Chesterfield to re-commence the Winter indoor Sportshall season. Hoping to build on our Mini League triumph over the summer, we took X athletes to north Derbyshire.
Under 11s
In a great start to their campaign, our under 11 girls took home first place at Sportshall #1. At the end of the day, the girls were on 85 points, 5.5 points ahead of 2nd placed Derby.
On the track, Lola-Rose Funnell placed 3rd in the one lap in 13.7, with Eva Price in 4th with 13.9. Our three other runners, Iyla Sanders (15.5), Grace Meehan (15.6) and Thea King (15.9) completed the AVEAC competitors in that race. In the longer 2-lap sprint, Lo-Ro came 2nd with 28.1, just ahead of third-placed Katherine Turner who ran 29.1. The two Florences completed the times with Sibley on 30.1 and Protheroe with a 31.6.
In the vertical jump, Grace grabbed 3rd with 36 ahead of Eva (34), Sibles (32), Iyla (29) and Thea (25). Katherine came 2nd in the standing triple jump with 4.87; Ellie Rogers getting a 4th with a very good 4.70. Eva (4.66), FloPro (4.50), Lo-Ro (4.37), Sibles (4.36), Iyla (4.28) and Thea (3.80) being our other jumpers.
Finally, in the chest push Katherine came 2nd with 5.70. Elise threw a 4.20, with FloPro getting the exact same.
In the relay, our girls came second just behind Derby.
Not to be outdone, our under 11 boys also took home a match 1 win. The team of Joseph Brackenbury, Adam Banton, Dylan Knowles, Benjamin McLaren, Daniel Straker and Chris Maye scored 73.5 points, 5 points in front of High Peak.
In the one lap, Joseph came 3rd in 13.7, Adam 4th in 13.9, Dylan ran a 14.3, Benjamin scored a 14.9, Daniel a flat 15 and Chris came in in 15.2. For the two-lap, Dylan came 3rd overall with a 28.1. Joseph followed up a good one laper with a 28.6, Adam a 28.7 and Chris a 39.8.
Benjamin was our only vertical jumper and placed 5th with 33. In the triple jump, Joseph came 4th with 5.37 and Adam 5th with 5.06. Benjamin (4.53), Chris (4.41) and Daniel (4.37) also competed for us.
Daniel threw a big 5.40 to win the chest push with Dylan in 5th with 4.60.
And to finish, the lads combined to win their relay in 56.4, ahead of High Peak.
Under 13s
It was disappointing to see so few under 13s. That takes nothing away from our fabulous athletes that competed but we only had 6 girls and zero boys. Hopefully those numbers will increase in a few weeks.
Bibi Mulholland came 2nd in the two lap in 26.3 with Isla Douglas scoring a 4th in 26.9. Also running for AVEAC were Maggie Flinders (27.0), Evelyn Maye (27.3) and Ruby Hill (29.0). Our sole 6-lapper, Isla ran a brilliant 93.4 to win that race.
In the field, Bibi came second in the vertical jump with 50, Maggie 5th with 43, whilst Ruby H (41), Isla (39), Evelyn (38) and Ruby Shore (34) also leapt for the club. Maggie came 3rd in the triple jump with 5.76, just ahead of Ruby H (5.04) and Ruby S (4.11).
Finally, in the shot Bibi came 5th with 6.50 with Ruby S coming 8th with 5.18.
The girls finished on a high, combining to win the relay with a 110.8 ahead of the hosts. Despite a lack of numbers, the girls still came 2nd in their category.
Under 15s
The U15s is becoming a highly competitive category and AVEAC is right up there. Our girls came second overall to Chesterfield whilst the boys scored a massive 83 points to win their area.
On the girls side, Erin Beresford and Madeleine Turner came equal 2nd in the two lap in 25.6, followed by Olivia Irvine with 25.9. In the four lap, Elmo came 2nd in 54.9, with Jasmine Shore 4th in 61.9, and Lucy Norman recording 67.6.
Jasmine came 3rd in the vertical jump with 50. Biscuits scored a 45, ahead of Earring on 43 and Lucy with a 35. In the shot, Jasmine scored another bronze 7.59. Madeleine was 4th with 6.85, and Erin (6.79) and Olivia (6.63) also did well.
The girls came second in the relay to a Chesterfield team that broke the record; not a bad performance at all by our girls.
For the boys, Joe Moss won the two lap in 23.4, Corey Fisher came 2nd in 24.3, whilst Ashton Hayes recorded a 25.4, Alfie Ray a 25.9 and Gabriel Parr a 30.0. Corey went on to win the four lap in 53.4. Harvey Glover placed 4th in 56.8, Alfie ran a 57.1 and Ashton a 58.0.
Joe won the triple jump with a big 7.78. Alfie was a fraction off 7 metres, coming 2nd with 6.98. Corey recorded a 6.74, Harvey a 6.11 and Gabe a 5.10. Joe won the shot with 11.28, Ashton came 3rd with 7.74, and Harvey (6.33) and Gabe (5.60) completing the field.
The young men combined to win the relay by a massive margin, running a 97.80 to the hosts 104.10.
Scores and next time
When all was said and done, the standings at present are:
- Chesterfield 459
- AVEAC 382.5
- High Peak 274.5
- Derby 210
The club did really well in this first match of the series, despite some athletes being unavailable, so with a better turnout next match, especially in the U13 boys, we will hope to catch up with Chesterfield.
Many thanks to the helpers, coaches, team managers and supporters and Rich W for standing in for Trev and recording the results.
We look forward to seeing a great turnout on Sunday 3rd November at the next match.
