Huge medal haul at County Championships

Last weekend’s Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire County Athletics Championships resulted in a huge medal haul for AVEAC athletes. Over the course of the two day event held at Moorways Sports Village, our athletes bagged a total of 61 championship medals including 27 Gold,  16 Silver and 18 Bronze.  Medals were  won in each of the age groups from Under 13 to Senior level and it was also good to see a few of our very youngest Under 11 athletes taking part in the Quadkids competition.

In the U13  age group two young athletes to emerge as rising stars, Jasmine Shore and Joe Moss won seven championship titles between them. Jasmine was on the top of the podium on four occasions winning the 100m, Long and High Jumps plus the Javelin. Joe lifted three titles in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump.  Three other Under 13 titles were also secured by Madeleine Turner in the 800m, Ethan Barnett in the 75m Hurdles and Corey Fisher in the Shot.

At Under 15 and 17 Level eight  titles went to AVEAC.  Imogen Laugharne was in top form securing three Gold medals in the High Jump, Long Jump and 80m Hurdles, Nicole Bonser took the Under 17 100m title and Ryan Rawlinson did likewise in the Men’s 200m.  Three Javelin titles went to AVEAC athletes with Joseph  Bennet and Gino Franco winning the U17 and U15 Derbyshire titles while in the Nottinghamshire Championships, Daisy Kaye was the top thrower in that field.

In the Under 20 and Senior ranks, multi-eventer, Ben Pitts gave an excellent display of athleticism  with  treble Gold in the High Jump, Long Jump and 110m Hurdles. In the Women’s U20 championship, Charlie Yates retained her titles in the High and Triple Jumps while Maddie Fahey took the 400m Hurdles gold. Senior athlete Henry Knighton also secured a double in the  High and Triple Jumps while in the Nottinghamshire event, Jessie Brown showed that there was no one to match her in the Javelin, securing the title for the second year in a row.
