A sunny day to produce bright performances for AVEAC athletes

It was another fine and sunny day for the 31 athletes who attended the 3rd Mini League of the season. The numbers were slightly down on previous meetings with 3 athletes busy competing at the Inter counties competition and others enjoying time away during the half-term school break.

In total, 4 competition records were broken on the day. Both the Under 11 boys and girls 75m records fell to Derby athletes. The under 11 girls high jump record was broken by a Chesterfield athlete. Nevertheless what would a Mini League match be without our very own Joe Moss securing a place in the history books? On this occasion they were re-written as he threw the discus a whopping 4m further than his own previous record, achieved at Mini League 1.

U9s
Congratulations to U9 Jack Biggs who came first in the exciting 50m race!

Thank you to Rich Woodward and Danny Humphrey for their team management on the day.

Thank you as well to Lucy Wilton, Becky Moss, Simon Turner, Rich Woodward and Gary Beresford for their support with the long jump officiating. It is great to have so many willing volunteers helping out this season. If anyone would like to take it one step further, the athletic club will pay  training fees for you to qualify as an official which then means the club scores more points in certain competitions. As someone who has recently done this myself, I can confirm that the process is not too arduous and is a great way to meet other members of the club. Please contact anyone on the committee to sign up or come and have a chat with me (Simon) or Becky Moss if you just want to find out more about the process.

The final mini league of the season is 15th July so we hope for our largest attendance so far so we can finish the season on a strong note!
