Many personal bests for AVEAC young athletes at the final YDL fixture

The third and final Lower Youth Development League (YDL) match of the season took place on Sunday 3rd July at the Berryhill Track, Mansfield.  AVEAC finished fifth overall on the day out of the six competing teams scoring 244 points. A feature of the AVEAC performances was the number of personal bests recorded by our young athletes.

​Archie Bamford, Jack Moss and Josh Bailey represented AVEAC U15 boys. In the Long Jump, both Jack and Archie picked up PBs with jumps of 4.15m and 4.07m respectively. Archie also picked up two more PBs in the A High Jump with a height of 1.43m and in the A 800m running a time of 2:25:50. A further PB came in the Shot when he threw 5.42m. Josh also ran in the 800m B race in 2:30.50 which placed him  third. Jack Jack ran the  200m A race returning a time of 29 seconds while Josh was exceptionally strong race in the B event running 27.6 seconds.

Our U15 girls consisted of Eleanor Rigby, Freya Kirby and Izzy Protheroe with all three picking up PBs. Eleanor achieved hers in the 1500m running a time of 5:42.90. Izzy also ran in the B 1200m and returned a time of 6:08.30 then went on throw the Javelin a distance of 10.66m in the B group for another persona best. In the other field events, Izzy and Eleanor competed in the Long Jump with Izzy jumping a PB of 3.66m in the A group and Eleanor jumping 3.27m in B competition. Eleanor went on to also compete in the High Jump, clearing 1.20m. Freya picked up a new PB in the Shot, throwing a distance of 7.12m which placed her third in the A string. She went on to dominate in the Discus and Javelin throwing 17.67 the former and 29.09m in the latter, placing first in both events.

Our U13 boys were well-represented by a strong team consisting of Ryan Ghai, Corey Fisher, Ethan Barnett, Alfie Ray, Joe Moss, Riley Jones and Jack Heslop. In the 75m, Ryan and Corey both ran a time of 10.60 seconds placing Ryan 3rd in the A race and Corey 1st in the B sprint; both picked up a PBs in the process. In the 75m non-scoring races, Ethan recorded a time of 12 seconds dead in his race while Alfie ran 11.7 seconds in his; both were second and delivered new best times in the process.

In the 150m race, Corey placed third with a time of 21.1 seconds in the A race and Joe placed first in the B race with a time of 21.4 seconds. Corey also raced in the 800m, collecting a PB of 2 minutes 38 seconds; in the B race, Alfie ran 2:52.30. 

Our athletes did well in the 75m Hurdles with first place finishes in both strings. Ethan covered the 75m distance in a time of 15.8 seconds and while Ryan ran a PB of 14.5 seconds, two seconds ahead of his closest competitor.

In the Long Jump, Joe jumped a PB of 4.31m which placed him second in the A competition. Ryan also achieved a PB with a jump of 4.28m, placing him first in the B group. Riley jumped 1.25m in the High Jump, which gained him joint second and went one better in the Shot to take maximum points with a throw of 6.83m.  Jack picked up a PB of 5.83m in the B Shot and also placed first. In Javelin, Joe won the A Sting with a distance  of 20.01m

Our U13 boys 4 x 100m relay quartet consisting of Joe, Ethan, Corey and Ryan, finished in first place with a excellent time of 56:70.

In the U13 girls,  AVEAC was represented by Jasmine Shore, Amelia Whittaker, Olivia Irvine, Mamie Skipper, Madeleine Turner and Isabel Plummer. In the 75m sprint, Jasmine was third in the A String in a time of 10.9 seconds with Amelia placing  second in the B race In 11.8 seconds. In the non-scoring race, Olivia placed second in 12.5 seconds while Mamie picked up a PB of 12.8 seconds.

Jasmine also raced in the 150m, placing third with a new best time of 21.8 seconds in the A String; Olivia recorded 26.6 seconds in the B race. In the 800m, Madeleine achieved a new best ever time in the A race with a time of 2:35.50, five seconds ahead of the runner up. Amelia also placed first in the B race with a time of 2 minutes 53 seconds. In the 1200m, Isabel picked up a PB of 5:02.10 and achieved another PB of 15.5 seconds in the 70m Hurdles A race; in the B race, Mamie ran a little quicker crossing the finish line in 15.3 seconds.

In the field, Amelia jumped 3.47 in the A Long Jump, with Mamie recording 2.88m in the B event. Due to injury, Madeleine had to withdraw from the High Jump, but managed third place in the Shot with a throw of 5.93m; Olivia threw 4.12m in the B Shot. In the Javelin, Jasmine threw 14.45m, placing her second in the A group while Isabel threw a PB in the B string with a throw of 8.42m.

The 4x 100m relay saw Isabel, Amelia, Olivia and Jasmine run a time of 61 seconds dead, placing them 2nd.
