Last weekend’s English Under 20 and 23 Championships held at Bedford International Stadium had AVEAC duo Jessie Brown and Ella Rush in action on Sunday in what was the hottest day of the year so far.
Jessie claimed her first ever national championship medal with a brilliant bronze in the Under 23 Women’s Javelin. Her best throw of 42.22m came in the fourth round which was good enough to hold on to a well deserved podium position. Gaining a national medal is a big breakthrough for Jessie who earlier this season was also runner up in the Midland Senior Championships.
Heptathlete Ella contested the Under 20 Long Jump and like Jessie came away with a bronze. Her first round effort of 5.99m was her best of the competition and was enough to secure her yet another national medal.
Two of Jessie Brown’s training partners who attend Nottingham University and have been regular members of Scott Knighton’s Javelin group for the past three years were also in very good form. Joss Foot (Orion Harriers) took the Gold medal in the U23 Men’s Javelin with a season’s best throw of 65.69m while Nicky Bell (Walton AC) finished fourth, just behind Jessie, in the Women’s event with a fine effort of 41.40m.
