AVEAC athletes delivered another impressive performance at Match 5 of the Derbyshire Mini League Sportshall series, held at Chesterfield on 1st February 2026. With outstanding individual victories, strong relay performances and fantastic team spirit across all age groups, the club secured a well-deserved second place on the day with 344.5 points. This result keeps AVEAC firmly in second place in the overall league standings with one match remaining, and with age group titles still up for grabs in the Under 11 Girls and Under 15 Boys categories, there is plenty to compete for at the final fixture.
Under 11 Girls
The Under 11 Girls fielded a strong team of 11 athletes, all of whom contributed to an excellent overall performance at Chesterfield. With victories across track and field events, consistent scoring throughout the team, and three relay squads on the day, the girls amassed 93 points to finish joint top of the age group alongside Chesterfield.
In the 1-lap sprint, Eva Price finished 2nd in 13.80 (9 points), with Sophie Wright 4th in 14.30 (7 points). Other performances came from Mya Offler (14.60), Mayim Glaberman (14.60), Jessica Wright (14.80), Grace Meehan (14.90), Macey Offler (16.20) and Esme Wainwright (16.50).
The 2-lap saw Florence Sibley take victory in 27.80 (10 points). April Malone finished 5th in 29.80 (6 points), while Sophie (29.40), Niah Proctor (30.40), Jessica (30.90) and Esme (33.20) all ran well.
Florence continued her excellent day by jointly winning the vertical high jump along with Mayim with 43cm (combining to claim 19 points). Grace (38cm), Mya (37cm), Eva (36cm) and Macey (33cm) completed the field.
In the standing triple jump, Florence again took 1st with 5.52m (10 points), while Eva finished 2nd with 5.21m (9 points). Solid jumps followed from Mayim (4.65m), Sophie (4.65m), Grace (4.63m), April (4.51m), Esme (4.43m), Jessica (4.29m) and Niah (4.09m).
In the chest push, Mya finished 3rd with 4.98m (8 points) and Macey placed 4th with 4.69m (7 points). April (4.61m) and Niah (3.90m) also competed.
AVEAC finished 2nd in the 4×1 lap relay in 58.80 (8 points), with the first team of Eva, Florence, Sophie and April. The second team of Mya, Mayim, Jessica and Grace ran 60.80, while the third team of Esme, Macey, Niah and guest athlete Amelia Wainwright completed the event in 68.50.
Under 11 Boys
AVEAC’s Under 11 Boys produced another strong team performance at Chesterfield, with solid scoring across the sprint events, field disciplines and the relay. Standout performances included a win in the standing triple jump and high placings on the track, helping the boys finish second overall in the age group behind Chesterfield. However, had we had a second chest pusher, we’d have won that section…
Reggie Taylor tied for 1st in the 1-lap in a time of 13.50 (9.5 points), with Joseph Brackenbury tying for 3rd in 13.70 (7.5 points). Otis Durham (14.10), Chris Maye (14.50) and Benjamin McLaren (15.00) also raced. In the 2-lap, Reggie tied for 2nd in 28.10 (8.5 points), with Joseph 4th in 28.20 (7 points). Otis (28.50), Harley (29.20), Chris (29.80) and Bradley (32.30) completed the event.
In the field, Harley finished 3rd in the vertical high jump with 41cm (8 points), with Otis 4th on 39cm (7 points). Benjamin McLaren jumped 38cm. Joseph won the standing triple jump with an excellent 5.60m (10 points). Harley finished 4th with 4.90m (7 points), followed by Chris (4.82m), Benjamin (4.44m) and Bradley (3.72m). Finally, in the chest push, Reggie placed 4th with 6.12m (7 points).
AVEAC finished 2nd in the 4×1 lap relay in 56.40 (8 points), with the team of Reggie, Joseph, Otis and Harley. A team of Chris, Bradley, Benjamin and guest Under 13 athlete Aimee Brackenbury also competed, running 58.30.
Under 13 Girls
The Under 13 Girls squad of five athletes delivered a well-balanced performance across track and field events, with strong contributions in the 4-lap, shot and standing triple jump helping the team secure victory in the age group.
In the 2-lap, Katherine Turner finished 4th in 27.60 (7 points) with Evelyn Maye 5th in 28.10 (6 points). Chelsea McCondach (30.10) and Florence Protheroe (30.80) also competed. Katherine then won the 4-lap in 58.20 (10 points).
In the vertical high jump, Evelyn took 3rd place with 47cm (8 points), with Chelsea 7th on 37cm (4 points). Evie (34cm) and Florence (29cm) also leapt for the yellows. Katherine finished 2nd in the standing triple jump with 5.65m (9 points), with Evelyn 6th on 4.77m (5 points). Evie jumped 4.57m. Evie then went on to win the shot with a strong 9.01m (10 points), while Chelsea placed 5th with 5.53m (6 points). Florence threw 4.87m.
The 4×2 lap relay team of Katherine, Florence, Chelsea and Evelyn finished 2nd in 116.50 (8 points).
Under 13 Boys
With just two athletes representing AVEAC in the Under 13 Boys category, Owen Watson and Adam Banton both delivered excellent individual performances across their events.
Owen finished 2nd in the 2-lap with 26.50 (9 points) and Adam coming 6th in 28.60 (5 points). In the vertical high jump, Adam was 5th with 39cm (6 points). In the standing triple jump, Owen won with 6.03m (10 points) with Adam Banton coming 8th with 5.00m (3 points). Finally, in the shot, Owen finished 3rd with 6.88m (8 points).
Under 15 Girls
With Bibi Mulholland as our sole representative in the Under 15 Girls category, her commitment to competing across multiple events was commendable.
Bibi finished 2nd in the 2-lap with 26.10 (9 points), whilst in the vertical high jump, she took 4th with 51cm (7 points). In the shot, Bibi came 4th with 6.31m (7 points). Overall, she scored 23 points on her own.
With no other U15 girls available, this was the first time Bibi has been unable to run in a relay.
Under 15 Boys
With only Gabriel Parr and Harvey Glover representing AVEAC in the Under 15 Boys category, both athletes competed well across their events.
Harvey finished 4th in the 2-lap with 26.90 (7 points). In the standing triple jump, Gube finished 4th with 6.28m (7 points) and McGlovin took 5th with 6.27m (6 points). In the shot, Harvey finished 3rd with 8.44m (8 points) with Gube 4th with 7.85m (7 points).
Harvey and Gube were joined by Owen and a High Peak athlete to run a relay in 110.00.

After five matches, the overall league standings show Chesterfield leading with 20 league points and 2425.5 match points. AVEAC are second with 15 league points and 1881.5 match points ahead of Derby (10 league points and 1118 match points) and High Peak (5 league points and 926 match points). Although the overall prize has gone, AVEAC can still win the under 11 girls and under 15 boys sections.

Special mentions go to Florence Sibley for her triple gold in the U11 girls (2-lap, vertical high jump, standing triple jump), Katherine Turner for her double victory in the U13 girls (4-lap, standing triple jump runner-up but won the 4-lap), Evie Pollard for winning the U13 girls shot, Owen Watson for winning the U13 boys standing triple jump, and Joseph Brackenbury for winning the U11 boys standing triple jump. With Match 6 still to come, let’s get as many athletes as possible to the final fixture!
