Close call at latest Sports Hall match

Hot on the heels of the second Sports Hall match of the season, the third fixture took place on Sunday in Chesterfield.  The overall winners were Chesterfield with AVEAC once again in the runner up position. It was a close call this time round with a mere 22.5 points separating both teams at the end of the afternoon’s proceedings. Chesterfield scored 470.5 points to AVEAC’s 448, Derby filled third spot on 258 points and High Peak with only a few athletes taking part scoring 72.5 points. In the individual age group matches our Under 11 Boy’s and Girl’s teams and our U13 Boy’s team topped the points tally.

The Under 11 Girl’s squad were well served by Summer Biggs, Ruby Arnold, Isla Douglas and Aimee Brackenbury.  Summer won the Standing Triple Jump and was second fastest overall in the 2 lap sprint.  Ruby finished 2nd to Summer in the Triple Jump while Isla and Aimee placed 3rd in the sprint and Vertical Jump.  The girls also sprinted well together in the Relay to take maximum points.  These four were well supported by Katherine Turner, Ruby Shore, Rosie Boyer, Suri Ghai and Florence Protheroe.

For the second match in a row, Charlie Davis recorded a magnificent treble, winning the 1 and 2 lap sprints and Standing Triple Jump.  Jacob Adam jumped the highest in the Vertical Jump and ran a good 1 lap sprint to finish 3rd overall.  Marcus Parsons-Loades gained valuable points in the Chest Push Throw where he placed 2nd and also in the Standing Triple Jump finishing 3rd. Archie Kerton making his Sports Hall debut ran a fine 2 lap sprint to finish 4th and combined with his three team mates to take the relay.

In the U13 Girl’s match Jasmine Shore and Amelia Whittaker combined well together to finish 2nd in the 8 Lap Parlauf with Jasmine also claiming two 3rd places in the 2 lap sprint and Shot. Other good performances outside the top three places were recorded by Betsy Wilton, Erin Berrisford, Mamie Skipper and Ellie Ursell.

Corey Fisher did exceptionally well yet again in the Under 13 Boy’s contest with a joint 1st place in the 2 lap sprint and then joining forces with Ryan Ghai won the Parlauf team race.  Both athletes were to the fore as well in the Standing Triple Jump with Ryan placing 2nd and Corey 3rd.  Joe Moss is beginning to get his form back after injury and placed 2nd in the Shot and 3rd in the Sprint. Riley Jones was also in good form with a runner up place in the Vertical Jump and 3rd in the Shot. In the Parlauf, Harvey Glover and Alfie Ray finished second to team mates Corey and Ryan. Outside the podium positions but nevertheless playing their part in the overall squad victory were;  Henry Jack, Sam Davies and Sebastian Taylor.

At U15 level numbers taking part from the four clubs were very low. AVEAC had three girls and two boys in action.  Isla Hiscocks who missed the second fixture due to a clash with the Northern Open meeting in Sheffield continued her winning streak from the first match with two victories in the 2 lap sprint and Vertical Jump.  Eleanor Rigby placed 2nd in the Shot, 3rd in the Vertical Jump and 3rd as well in the 4 lap run.  The third member of the team Isobel Protheroe scored good points in the 2 and 4 lap events placing 4th in both.

In the Boy’s U15 match it was good to see Seb Banks back in action and he did not disappoint with a double victory in the 2 and 4 lap races and 3rd place finish in the Standing Triple Jump. Teammate Kian Whittaker placed 3rd in the Shot and added more valuable points with 4th places in the 2 lap and Standing Triple Jump.

The fourth match in the six match series will take place on Sunday 8th January.
